Our Baptismal program assists parents who are registered parishioners in preparing their children for the Sacrament of Baptism. Parents who would like their child baptized should contact Julie Cohn at the parish office to arrange for a meeting. Baptismal meetings are scheduled once a month. Not a parishioner yet? Pick up a Welcome Packet from the parish office.
Our Sacramental Preparation programs are designed to support families, teens, and children in celebrating their life in God. Sacramental preparation "takes place with the community and involves the whole community of faith" (NDC, 79-B). This means that children will learn about the Sacraments throughout their years in Faith Formation or in Catholic school, and immediate preparation for celebrating the Sacraments is done through separate programs at the parish. Per parish policy, all families should register with St. Rita Church prior to enrolling in any of the programs below.

Families of Second Graders New to Faith Formation This Year
Per diocesan policy, children must attend Faith Formation or Cathoilc school the year before they are eligible to prepare for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist. THIS YEAR ONLY while we adapt to this policy, we can make accommodations for some second grade children who did not attend Faith Formation or Catholic school last year. Parents/guardians of these children who have been St. Rita parishioners since fall 2018 may enroll their children in First Reconciliation and First Eucharist this year. There will be additional information available to you to help you prepare your children to celebrate these Sacraments.
Children in Grade 2 or above may be eligible to prepare to celebrate these Sacraments. Per diocesan policies, we ask that all families seeking these Sacraments:
- attend Faith Formation or Catholic school the year before Sacramental Preparation.
- attend Faith Formation or Catholic school this year.
First Reconciliation is celebrated prior to First Eucharist. Preparation begins in the fall. First Eucharist is celebrated after First Reconciliation. Preparation begins in the spring.
Children in Grade 8 or above are eligible to begin the 2-year program for Confirmation. This program covers the required 2 years of faith formation and ends with preparation to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. Preparation begins in September. Confirmation is celebrated at Sacred Heart Cathedral in the spring.

Please note: we are no longer able to offer Home Study as a standard program option for incoming Year 1 candidates. Per diocesan policy, Confirmation programs include classroom-based catechesis in order to reflect the community-oriented nature of the Sacrament. Teens with significant barriers to group participation have a right to catechesis appropriate to their needs and gifts, and may discuss home study accommodations on a case-by-case basis with Anne Thomas.
The Eucharist and Sacramental Anointing are available to the homebound and those in need. Please make arrangements by contacting the Parish Office.
Arrangements for Marriage must be made at least six months in advance. Please contact the Parish Office to arrange for a meetings with a priest or deacon. Couples marrying in the Diocese of Rochester take the Fully Engaged inventory during their marriage preparation time, usually six months to a year before the wedding. Fully Engaged is an inventory designed to help engaged couples solidify the foundation upon which they, together with Christ, will build their Sacrament of Marriage. Grounded in Church teaching and loaded with catechetical content, this dynamic premarital inventory is a trustworthy guide that meets the real challenges today’s couples face.
Engaged couples should register for a Marriage Preparation class offered by the Diocese. Click here for information about our sessions here at St. Rita.
